A bit of beautiful decay
I feel a little decayed this fall and winter. Not in the sense that I’m going bad. More like I’m ready for de-composing. Shapeshifting.
Garden snapshot (11.25.23)
We’ve officially shifted in the season, and S is ready to call it “Winter.” With high temps in the 40s this week, I think she’s on to something.
How I blew the gardening budget in 2023 (potted edition)
Here’s a rundown of all the plant material I picked up for my empty pots this year along with sincere gratitude for the means to tender for it and the ability to tend it.
Vibes 11.13.23
Here are some quick notes on the weather, what I’m reading, and a few seasonal snaps while “Wintering.”
Stunner: Aloe ‘Christmas Carol’
My daughter and I are in full-on holiday mode early this year: Cue the Bublé and Botti and homemade peppermint mochas.
Loose ends
Quick notes and photos on the porch pot refresh (and my mini-musing on how tying up loose ends invites you across a threshold to new beginnings).
Vibes 11.04.2023
Trying to get back in the habit of at least one good, long walk (45 min.) every day. The dramatic color in the trees and the sky has been a pretty compelling reason to get out and put those steps in.
Vibes 10.30.2023
Here’s a quick look at some of the garden projects and seasonal delights I indulged in this past week with my solo and family time.
I made this (Autumn swag)
When I Insta’d, I loved following Jen Garner, especially for her “Pretend Cooking Show.” When I’m working with plants, I feel a bit like “Pretend Floristry Goddess.” And I’m working with that.
Color study (red + silver plant pairings)
Here are three moments I’m loving in the garden right now with red and slivery shades shining on tender perennials, hardy perennials, small trees, and small shrubs.
Garden snapshot (09.25.2023)
The weather has just shifted with the Equinox. Candle and curry season is here! And so are my notes on what worked (and work I want to do next year) in the back garden.
Stunner: Cosmos ‘Apricotta’
I bought a small light table last winter for annual seed starting, and this year I tried out Cosmos ‘Apricotta.’ Spoiler: I will grow it again!
