S and I are embracing the holiday spirit a pinch early this year. And we’re doing it without apology.

The true sign? We’ve downloaded Bublé and kicked off the holiday carols in the car yesterday (Nov 7). She’s also, literally, drawn up a list of the creative projects she wants to complete between now and New Year’s.

In addition to the Aloe ‘Christmas Carol’ I happily stumbled upon at D7Ds this morning, I picked up some narcissus bulbs and a new amaryllis (‘La Paz’) which I’m super excited about. They are now potted up/in vessels with water and light, and I’m excited to see them get underway. I’m also hopeful the amaryllis (unknown) I stored last year will come back!

Honestly, the reason I stopped in to the nursery was with the hope I’d find some pink poinsettias (pink! I know! it must be a Barbie hangover). …I mean, they put mums out in August, so why not poinsettias after Halloween? I only wanted a few tiny ones to tide me over til the day after Thanksgiving when I’d bring some bigger (and more traditionally colored ones) home.

I’m also considering buying a small Norfolk pine which I could bedeck and bedazzle on a table in the front hall for the holiday season and then move into one of the bedrooms until it warms up enough to take it out the porch next Spring.

Ryan likes to say, “Books are my friends.” For me, plants. Plants are my friends.
