Property Line

So, just a little update. We’re actually not buying the house by City Park. After the inspection report came back and we visited with various and sundry contractors, the house needs $30K in cash, up front, all at once, to make it liveable (new furnace, water heater, subsequent venting and safety upgrades, electrical work, new pipes exiting the home, radon mitigation, lead paint and asbestos abatement… plus a new bathroom since the walls behind the tiles (and in spots, the floor) are rotten…). It’s going to require more cash than we are comfortable throwing at it right now. So, my dreams of a Japanese garden have been silenced for the moment. …Trust me when I tell you, this change is for the best. We’re still looking and will find our home soon. That one just wasn’t “the one.”

Ack, what a roller coaster home-buying is.

Bummer! Though it sounds like you guys made the right decision.

It’s so hard to shop for a home here. Most of the affordable ones (for first time home buyers like us) don’t have any character. Or land.

    Rant alert…
I keep wondering when professional wages and benefits are going to catch up with the cost of living out here. It seems like the only homeowners I know (at least in the most desirable parts of town) are executives, physicians, childless, cash poor, or retired. …Can you tell I’m bummed out? Oy. Sorry.

    I do appreciate your support!
