Community Supported Agriculture - Our 2010 CSA Shares

Since Ryan and I no longer have access to the 1200 square foot veggie plot we’ve gardened in in previous years (we’re no longer renting; we’ve moved to our own townhome), we decided to join the local CSA. No doubt, we will be growing herbs and tomatoes here on our patio. But, beginning Monday, June 14 we’ll be picking up our veg, fruit and egg share from Grant Farms. I am SO excited. Some friends of ours introduced us to the program last summer, and we enjoyed the benefits of their shares when they were traveling out of town. There is something kind of magical about opening the crates and seeing what kind of food surprises await! I’m also SUPER excited because our pickup location is within walking distance of the house. Monday evenings, Ryan, Sydney (and maybe even Annie) and I will walk over and pick up our order together!

NOTE: For those of you curious…

  • Eggs - 1 dozen - 26 weeks = $4.50 dozen. Relatively expensive, but these are the best tasting eggs you can get aside from collecting from your own hens.
  • Fruit - 22 weeks = $15.55 per week. Here’s what we have access to. In total, we’ll enjoy 150 pounds of fruit before the season is out.
  • Veg - 26 weeks = $17.10 per week. We get 8-10 different types of vegetables and herbs every week. Here’s what the veg calendar looks like.
