Last week, I spent a few hours with my friends Betsy and Courtney, a mother and daughter team who moved here to CO from the East. Like me, they grew up romping in river valleys, along flush creekbeds and babbling brookes. As much as we enjoy the City of Fort Collins, we lament the absolute absence of water. Almost every day.
Most properties here in CO have dry, faux creekbeds running through them “to give the illusion” of water. But frankly, the illusion is as compelling and believable as a David Blaine stunt — there’s no magic. It’s just a fussy, all too carefully arranged pile of pretense.
So, today, when I saw this beautiful DIY rock fountain via This Old House, I felt like there might be hope for me and my water fetish here in NoCO. They say, you can build it in about 8 hours for $100-$200. (I imagine costs vary based on what tools you have in your arsenal and what rocks you have (a) in your fantasy or (b) at your disposal.) Check out the materials overview and step-by-step DIY instructions.
TIP: Once you’ve found the perfect arrangement for your rocks, use a pencil and number them and line them up in chronological order so you don’t have to try to recreate perfection.
